Age Discrimination at Beverly's Fabrics in Rocklin

I went to Beverly's fabrics & crafts in Rocklin ,ca. a couple times to be told by different employees a very confusing coupon policy. You can't use phone coupons because they don't accept them, you can't use competitor coupons at their full value, you can't use more than one 50% coupon, and you can't use more than one 40% coupon, you can't use a student discount card when you use coupons, you can't buy more than 4 yards when you use a coupon(Did I miss anything, holy cow, who can keep up?). They say they accept competitors coupons, but they don't really. They only give you 30%. The manager is accusing & interrogates her customers. She discriminated against me because of my age & stated I couldn't use my school discount card to Joanne's because I wasn't buying school supplies(The card is for every purchase, every day including sales, discounts & clearance items). WHAT??? I asked a lot of questions with different employees because the story kept changing. They don't tell you though, until you have your fabric cut & you are stuck to buying it! The manager spoke to me on my last visit & said that I couldn't come back to the store because she didn't like my "shopping habits". What in the world does that mean? She told me if I tried to come back she'd have me arrested for trespassing. Are you serious? She didn't like me asking questions apparently. She stated in a "report" (sounds like a Seinfeld episode) on me that I was bullying the employees for more discounts and was using Beverly's name to try to get more discounts. I went into the store with coupons already in hand. She falsified her report saying that one of the items i returned worked fine when she plugged it in. Huh, funny, considering i bought a battery operated heating tool! When a customer is upset or frustrated about being misinformed on numerous occasions, does that mean that the manager gets to ban them from the store? I did nothing wrong, I didn't yell at anyone or slam my fists down on the counter. I didn't act irate. My advice, don't ask questions about coupons at Beverly's, it might get you arrested! I am an adult student and was discriminated against because I didn't look like a 19 year old college student! Shame on her & shame on their corporate office for not backing the consumer. I am a member of several organizations, groups & clubs and in those groups are hundreds upon hundreds of people. Does Beverly's really want to stay in business? From the way that their manager treats people, I would say no. I am very disappointed in upper management & their lack of attention to this situation. I hold my ground that I was within my rights to ask questions, and ask about the prices or discounts being applied. I am not a passive person who lets businesses take advantage of consumers. I am also not going to allow a manager of a fabric store to pass judgement or discriminate against me because of my age.

This is not discrimination...Would you prefer to receive 100% off? sheesh Lady...give the store a break!

They already discount their craft supplies with their own coupons and you want additional savings? how would they ever stay in business with your ilk as a customer?

Ive been bev's shopper for years. What happened years ago was the there were groups of women coming in on certain fabric sale days, abusing the coupons, buying inane amounts of yardage.

In order to stop that selfish abuse of sales/coupons Bev's instituted the policy of ONE coupon per visit, and the 30% discount with other stores coupons. So, others ruined what WAS an awesome benefit from Bev's....

And yes, a student IS a student no matter the age, however one has to be buying SCHOOL related supplies.

I don't know why the coupon policy was so varied with the employees, but a manager needs to address it.

By now I believe there is a new manager, so that should cure the "Kim" issue people are having.

If you have a problem with the stores coupon policy maybe take it up with corporate, instead of harassing the employees. You are lucky they even accept competitor coupons. Its people like you that make it such a "joy" to work in the retail industry.

I shop at the Rocklin Beverly's all the time, and I've never had a problem with the manager or any of the employees. They are very clear and up-front with their coupon policy to anyone.

The only reason you would be confused by it is if you were purposely hunting for ways to work the system. They offer a monthly mailer with 3 40% off one item coupons throughout the month and a 25% off coupon for fabrics. They DO accept their competitor coupons (Jonanns, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc.) with some restrictions. They only honor competitor fabric coupons up to 30% off as a kindness to us because their own coupons only go up to 25% off, so really they are giving us a better deal.

The competitor coupons apply at face value to anything else regularly priced aside from fabric. That is not confusing. That is very straightforward. They do not accept phone coupons or internet coupons.

That sucks, yes, but its not confusing. They offer 10% off to anyone who is a teacher, a military member, or a senior citizen. They will also give 10% off to people who are buying items FOR A SCHOOL PROJECT. It is called the SCHOOL PROJECT DISCOUNT.

Just because you are going to school does not give you a discount. You have to be purchasing required items for a school project. I only get that discount when I have to buy things for my kid's projects at school. Thats it.

It is not age discrimination at all. I've asked the cashier what their full coupon and discount policy is and this is exactly what they told me. You are just looking for reasons to complain and get attention.

The rest of us are completely fine with their coupon policy, and if people like you keep doing this ***, you are going to ruin it for the rest of us who like the store. I hope they don't decide to stop accepting competitor coupons completely because of people like you causing problems.

You sound like you are kim or a friend of hers to be getting so mad about this. Kim is a terrible manager and a psycho.

Thank you and no I'm not a snotty kid. I have worked in surgery for more tham 20 years and I am mother of two, my age is irrelevant to you but I am not an irate senior.

The fact is I was told that they honored all competitors coupons and there was no restrictions stated. That does not indicate any"rules" other than they accept them.

I appreciate that some people abuse systems however, when they tell you you can use them and then they downgrade their value without telling you until you have to pay , that's wrong. And I am able to use a student discount card if I am a college student.

Exactly how old are you? Are you an irrate senior citizen or a snotty nosed kid?

If you are a senior you shouldn't be using a student discount card. A lot of stores don't accept cards or coupons from other stores. To me the way your post sounds you are trying to abuse the system and use too many coupons and discount cards at one time. Maybe you should try using them at the business they are meant for.

All businesses have rules regarding the use of coupons. I also think the discount cards for stores should only be used at the specific store it is meant for.
